What is Mediation?

Mediation can help individuals or groups resolve conflicts using a neutral mediator who helps keep the focus on reaching workable agreements.

Unlike court cases, mediation is   confidential and scheduled at the    convenience of the parties involved.   Parties also maintain control of the process including the nature and scope of their agreements.

Mediation works for all involved.  It’s an opportunity to save time, money, and possibly even a relationship.

Mediation Training

Effective mediation skills are invaluable in work, home and community relationships.  The Mediation Center's Community Mediation Training meets the standards of the Mediation Network of North Carolina. This trainingis designed to teach you to mediate conflicts using a proven model; build skills and techniques for effective communication; and practice neutrality in the presence of opposing perspectives.

  • There are two way to participate in this training:
  • Each year on October and April, The Mediation Center hosts a three-day Community Mediation Training open to the public.  Please check the "training" tab above for upcoming events.
  • We can offer this training at other time to groups of 8 or more people.  Please call to discuss the possibility of hosting a mediation trianing for your group.  We can customize the content to meet your needs.

Facilitation – A professional facilitator will meet with you to determine the goals of your meeting, retreat, or long-range planning session and to set a workable agenda.  The facilitator will work with your group during your meeting time to help you accomplish your goals.

Conflict Resolution – When conflicts arise in the workplace involving co-workers,  managers, employees, or a board of directors, a facilitator/mediator works with those involved to define the problem, identify main concerns, and lead parties though a process to find workable solutions.
